My name is Coach Ray, and I was born and raised in Oakland, California. I am a husband and have been married to my amazing wife FOR 10+ years. Together, we have 4 amazing children whose initials are the inspiration for ‘SRS’- Training. In 2021 my family and I relocated from the Bay Area to Sacramento, and have been happily contributing to the ever-growing and thriving baseball/softball community in the area since then.

 

Teaching the fundamentals of softball and baseball is my passion, but before we get into that, I will share a little about my background. In 2003 I was drafted by the Houston Astros straight out of high school, but decided to go to college instead. I went on to be Division 3 'Player of the Year' and set a record for stolen bases that lasted for over 16 years. My college career earned me the opportunity to be drafted in the 16th round by the San Diego Padres in 2006. I  went on to play baseball professionally for 5 years in a span ranging from the minor leagues to playing overseas in Germany. I finished my playing career in 2011 in the Canadian-American Baseball Association, and from there transitioned into coaching. The transition from athlete to coach was natural for me- as my passion for playing, also gave me a passion for teaching the game.

 

As a coach for both baseball and softball, I have had the opportunity to be a 

head coach at the high school level, and coach travel-ball over a span of 15 years. Over the years, I have garnered a deep knowledge and understanding of the game of baseball/softball from multiple perspectives- a Player, Coach, and a Dad. In this journey, I have learned how IMPORTANT fundamentals are, and how properly teaching the game matters in the development of each athlete. ​My philosophy on training, translates on and off the field- as  the pillars of success can be applied anywhere. Hard Work, Preparation, and Consistency, in anything you do, are key fundamentals to success!
